What types of geometry can I clip?

You can clip layers containing points, lines or polygons. The clipping layer, however, must contain polygons that define the boundary of the area to be maintained. The result will preserve only the geometries that are inside or intersect with the clipping polygon.

What happens to the attributes of the layer?

By default, all attributes of the original layer are maintained in the result. You can deactivate this option if you only need geometries. The attributes are preserved intact for each entity that passes the clipping process.

What happens if the layers have different coordinate systems?

The tool will try to automatically reproject them to the coordinate system of the input layer, but for better results and greater precision, we recommend that both layers are in the same coordinate system before processing them.

How does clipping work with geometries partially within the area?

Geometries that are partially within the clipping polygon will be cut exactly at the boundary. Only the portion that is within the clipping area will be included in the final result.

Tool Description

La herramienta Clip te permite recortar una capa de entrada utilizando un polígono como límite. Es ideal para extraer datos de un área específica o para ajustar capas a límites administrativos. El resultado será una nueva capa que contiene solo las geometrías que se encuentran dentro del área de recorte.

Useful tip: For better results, make sure both layers are in the same coordinate system. The clipping layer must be of polygon type.
